New arrivals!
Major announcement!!!  The chicks have hatched!!  As of last night (7th June) class 3/4 have successfully incubated and hatched 7 Old English Pheasant Fowl chicks, more tomorrow with any luck.  They will be put under a heat lamp at Shepherds Cottage and some of them will join our little troupe on Amber Green, and hopefully some will be sold to Ryedale Folk Museum as they are a traditional Yorkshire chicken breed. This breed of chicken is on the Rare Breed Survival Trust endangered list.  There are less than 200 in the world.

Postponement of PTF Development Meeting
We were very sorry to postpone last Tuesday’s development meeting, which we felt we had to do because only a few parents (actually 7!) had clearly confirmed that they would attend. Our main aim was to have a well-attended meeting, not dominated by teachers, to discuss the future direction of the school.
We will have another attempt on Tuesday, 16 September at 20.00. Perhaps you could put that date in your diary now. Nearer the time we will send out confirmation slips and hope to have as many people as possible attend and contribute their views. If we get a similar low response for 16 September, however, we will go ahead with those who attend, whatever the number.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

The Parents Teachers and Friends School Development Meeting
For me the choice of Waldorf education for my children is not only an alternative option to a State School, it is a choice to be part of something alive and evolving. Teachers, Parents and Supporters should ideally meet frequently. We should get together, inform each other, have fruitful discussions, learn with each other and through those processes create the individuality and qualities of our school. In order to bring those things into being we need to manage to meet and bring our different opinions, views and ideas. That's how we can keep the school alive and balanced. We simply do need to have those times together to exchange, to reflect and to review then we can really feel our school community. I hope in the future to have plenty of chances to meet.

Violin Exams
Earlier in May, five pupils from Botton School attended the ‘Northern School of Music’ in Hartlepool to take their violin exams. Tom and Aidan were taking exams for the first time (Grade 1), as was Yuma (Grade 3), whilst Alya (Grade 3) and Johan (Grade 5) had taken previous exams.

An exam is the culmination of a good deal of preparatory work and is a stringent process. But the examiner’s written report provides worthwhile feedback, for parent, pupil and teacher; the necessity to perform ‘live’ is also valuable experience.
All five pupils did perform well, achieving their individual grades!

A not insignificant contributing factor to this positive outcome was the cultivation of a group spirit. We all went along together: Valeska had organised the minibus, Ben drove it, and Fiona made an additional adult. A brief walk beforehand in Hartlepool, and then sitting together in the waiting room. All this admirably supported and balanced the individual testing. The ice cream in Great Ayton afterwards was a welcome and worthy treat!

Sponsored Walk update
Thank you to all who participated in the walk.  It was a very enjoyable afternoon and so good to do something together.  Not all of the sponsor money has come in yet, so please can you send it to me as soon as possible. Now for the good news: you have raised £580 so far.  Well done!

Guisborough Market Stall
Saturday 14 June
The market stall is this Saturday. I would like to remind parents to bake at least one cake (or cakes, cookies etc) for us to sell. Please leave in the school kitchen by Friday 13 June, 12 noon.
If you can help out for an hour or two that would be great. We will be there from 7.30am till 4pm. Please let me know. Please label cakes etc so we know what we are selling. Please make the effort to make some lovely cakes - it is a great opportunity to meet people who know nothing about Botton School. I look forward to your yummy cakes and to your phone calls offering help.

Sadie Jemmet
Sadie Jemmett was at school here in Botton in the 80s when her mother Joanna was the community's Priest. Now, according to national music journalists, she is 'an English folk star of the future' and will sing at The Band Room in Farndale on Saturday June 14. More details, links to Sadie's music and videos, and tickets are available via The Band Room website
www.thebandroom.co.uk or telephone Nigel Burnham on 01751 432900. A donation from the proceeds will go to Botton School.
More info also at www.bottonvillageschool.co.uk.

Flight to/from Italy
Anyone who could use a flight to Venice or back from Rome, please tell me quickly. You might be able to order it as an altered booking of a surplus place on the Class 7/8 Italy trip, so we could recoup some of the fare already paid.

Looking for an au pair?
Swiss girl (20 years old) is looking for an Au-Pair family in UK for 4-6 moths (from September). I like children, animals and nature and would be glad to improve my English and get to know a new country and culture. I have visited the Waldorf School in Switzerland and would be happy in an alternative, nature-orientated family who uses to live in the country. I can speak English and French more or less and have further experience with looking after little children and running the household.
Interested? I`m glad to hear from you,
