Osprey

An Osprey takes off from his nest,
His wings out wide as he soars up.
Up up up he flies until he sees a glistening
Lake far below.
He hovers there all a quiver.
Suddenly his bright yellow eyes see a flash of silver.
He dives, the wind whistling past his ears.
He plunges into the water and comes out with a trout in his sharp talons.
He flies back to his pine tree nest where there are two hungry beaks.
He feeds his young then goes to his perch for a well-deserved rest.

Class 5/6

The Return of Odysseus
Thank you class 5/6 for your beautiful play; you created a real atmosphere of anticipation and resolution. The costumes were also very beautiful and just right!
Marie-Reine

The Merchant of Venice
Class 7/8 are delighted to invite you to come and watch their performance of William Shakespeare’s play “The Merchant of Venice”, in the Joan of Arc Hall, on Thursday 22nd of May.
The Merchant, Antonio, has borrowed 3,000 ducats from Shylock the money-lender, so that his friend Bassanio can go in style to woo the beautiful Portia.
The forfeit of “a pound of flesh”, if he could not repay the debt on time, seemed like a joke at first...
But Shylock’s daughter elopes with a lot of his money and he is very angry...
Then Antonio’s ships are all lost at sea...

We would invite everyone attending to contribute £1 towards refreshments during one of the intervals (juice and cake or flapjack). This is to help raise funds for the Class Trip to Italy next month (including Venice!).

The dress-rehearsal will be on Wednesday 21
st at 1.30, going on until about 4.00.
On Thursday the afternoon performance will also be at 1.30 until about 4.00, with the evening performance beginning at 7.30 and going on until about 10.00.

Please note: this is an earlier start to that previously published for the afternoon performance, because it is a long play; and with it going-on beyond “home-time” it will affect after-school transport arrangements.

Eskdale Trust AGM
The Annual General Meeting of the Trust will be held in the Caedmon Room at 19.30 on Tuesday, 20th May. Financial Reports will be received and members of the Council will be elected; any proposals for new initiatives will be considered. The AGM will be followed at 20.15 by the May Council meeting.
Michael

Please come to the
Parents Teachers and Friends School Development Meeting
Tuesday 3
rd June 8pm
A chance for you to have your say and to contribute your ideas. What are the school’s main strengths and weaknesses? What do we, as a school community, need to do to make the most of our strengths and remedy our weaknesses? What can we do to raise money, increase involvement and improve communication? The plan is to split into groups for discussion and then to reconvene to feed back to the whole meeting. We would like every school family to be represented. Please send apologies via Michael if you are unable to attend

Minutes from coordinators meeting – 21 April 2008

1. Welcome to Lee – our new member of the coordinators.
We are still looking for more people by the way! Next meeting will be 2 June 2008. I am in New Botton Farm. Anyone is welcome, also to just find out what we do.

2. Parents evenings

We discussed pros and cons for the Tuesday night parent evening slot.

It is important to offer alternatives
It is important that pressure to attend does not go through the children
Ideally we should do a survey to find out what suits people best.

3. Fundraising
Sponsored walk – May 18
Guisborough Market Stall – June 08.
