The Prophet by
Alexander Pushkin
With fainting soul athirst for Grace,
I wandered in a desert place,
And at the crossing of the ways
I saw a sixfold Seraph blaze.
He touched mine eyes with fingers light
As sleep that cometh in the night:
And like a frightened eagle's eyes,
They opened wide with prophecies.
He touched mine ears, and they were drowned
With tumult and a roaring sound:
I heard convulsion in the sky,
And flight of angel hosts on high,
And beasts that move beneath the sea,
And the sap creeping in the tree.
And bending to my mouth he wrung
From out of it my sinful tongue,
And all its lies and idle rust,
And 'twixt my lips a-perishing
A subtle serpent's forkèd sting
With right hand wet with blood he thrust.
And with his sword my breast he cleft,
My quaking heart thereout he reft,
And in the yawning of my breast
A coal of living fire he pressed.
Then in the desert I lay dead,
And God called unto me and said:
“Arise, and let My voice be heard,
Charged with My will go forth and span
The land and sea, and let My word
Consume with fire the hearts of men.”
This poem was shown in eurythmy at the Michaelmas festival
Shoebox appeal
Now is the time to start thinking about this Christmas’s shoebox appeal. Our contributions are much appreciated by children in Eastern Europe. Perhaps we can send even more this year…! Could you talk about this at home and at school? Perhaps a class or group of friends could join together to fill a box. More details later! Sue Böhlen
Danby Dale Gym Club
The Club has begun again with meetings on Wednesdays, 15.45 to 16.45, for children from Botton, Castleton and Danby schools. An older group (Class 5/6) alternates weekly with a younger group (Class 3/4.) There are still spaces available, and anyone who wants to attend should contact their class teacher in the first instance. For over 7s, the Club instructor, Sharon Edens, also runs the Ryedale Phoenix Gym Club at Pickering Leisure Centre. This club meets on Fridays, 17.30 – 18.30 for beginners, 18.30 – 19.30 for intermediate and advanced. Anyone interested in the Ryedale Phoenix Club should contact Sharon on 01751 432998.

Festival on the Moor - Dates for Your Diary
Festival on the Moor presents 2 shows in the run up to the Festive Season:
Richard Grainger at The Grapes, Scaling Dam, Thursday 29th November 8pm. Contact Peter 01287 640461
Richard Grainger is an internationally renowned singer/songwriter and an excellent guitarist. He is also an enthralling storyteller and witty entertainer. He travels the world with his songs of life, work and love of real people from his beloved Teesside and N. Yorkshire and also sings traditional songs with his unique “mahogany” voice. Richard has been described as “A Folk Singer in the truest sense” and wins over audiences wherever he goes; “Richard is an incredibly great bard, storyteller, writer of songs, musician and singer and we’re proud to say that he has become one of our audience’s favourite performers.” – Steve Brown, Hi-Desert Playhouse, Joshua Tree, California
Richard is also a Botton School parent and would love to see some friendly, local faces at The Grapes – a new local venue for live music.
