From the coordinators meeting 17.9.07

1. Advent Fayre
The Fayre will be on 9 December. There is a group: Fee, Julie, Carolyn & Valeska. Thanks to Carol for her brilliant notes about it. There are some new ideas; they need developing.

2. Safari Lunch & Fundraising
Class 5/6 parents are organising the Safari Lunch. We looked at further fundraising events. We came up with a rough idea for the coming year.
Advent Fayre in December
Farmers Market in Guisborough maybe March/April
Lunch offer to Botton maybe March/April
Open Day in July
Paper inserting throughout the year
Other ideas:
Relaxation day at school
Christmas Play in Saltburn with juice & mince pies
Fun Sports Day

3. Paper inserting
It is such an important fundraiser. We need to establish to remind people. Underlined name should call the rest of the group.

4. New families
Welcome to Rebecca & Marc Gross.

Safari Lunch
On 14 October we will have our second Safari Lunch. Class 5/6 parents are organising the event. By now you should have all received a note and some flyers.
It was a great success last year and people appreciated it very much. Let's hope it will be the same this year.
Valeska

Craft Group
Yes! You have read correctly! Craft groups have started again on Thursdays, 8.45am in New Botton Farm. Jane Robinson joins us at 10.45 and brings all her expertise and enthusiasm. We had already one great session and hope for more people to join. Our aim is to create lots of gnomes, fairies, mushrooms, simple items for the season-table. All things will be sold at the Advent Fayre.
See you next Thursday!
Julie, Valeska & Jane

THANK YOU!
We won the Sunday dinner at the Cleveland Tortine with our 'open' day raffle tickets. We didn't know what to expect - but were really impressed by the building, the service…and the food!

A Great Night of Food and Music
''Festival on the Moor” visited Botton School on September 5th.A memorable night with excellent food prepared by Jeanette and Richard Grainger and a busy band of helpers. Gordon Tyrral was the last minute replacement for Claude Bourbon who had to cancel because of ill health. Gordon performed many items from English folk songs and instrumentals to Beatles standards, displaying his virtuosity on the guitar.
The audience was made up of Botton residents and festival goers. It was a success and we may see a repeat in the future. Watch this space.
“Festival on the Moor” is an annual event which takes music all over the North York Moors Area. This year concerts and events took place in various venues, including Farndale, Hutton le Hole, Kirkbymoorside, Northallerton, Danby, Commondale, Glasidale and Botton.
The festival was ably assisted by the latest team member, Abram Welburn, who helped the whole week with logistical arrangements from day to day during the event. He will be a part of the new 'Shoots and Roots' Project aimed at encouraging young folk to learn more of their moorland heritage through song, dance, customs and traditions. Any young people interested in taking part in the project can contact the festival on 01287 660200.

Would anyone like to fundraise at the Michael Hall Christmas Fair, 24th November, 11.00 - 16.00?
Indoor stalls (which have to be booked before 20th October) are available to sister Steiner schools at a rent of £55 per stall.

Consultation Process - why not try to influence the “Children's Plan” so that it really reflects the needs of children and families?
This is just to let you know that the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) has launched a National Consultation in the form of a questionnaire (Time to Talk). The aim of the questionnaire is to produce a "Children's Plan" which will set out how to achieve objectives for children, young people and families in the future. The results of the Consultation will be published early December. Many of you will have seen the leaflets in supermarkets and libraries but you can also complete the Consultation on-line.
We would like to ask for your help in making your parents/teachers/friends aware of this of questionnaire and to encourage them to contact the Government in this regard. The more of our parents/teachers/friends to answer the questions, the more positive the outcome could be for all children in the future.

Parents/teachers/friends can simply take the following link:
www.dfes.gov.uk/timetotalk/
The consultation closes on 19th October.
With all good wishes,
Lara Cousins

Term Dates for Next Year 0809
The College of Teachers has agreed the calendar for next year, 2008/2009, which will be taken to the Eskdale Trust Council meeting on 16 October for formal ratification. It is basically the same pattern as this year, except that the Christmas holiday is Monday to Friday, there will be no school in Holy Week and Easter is a little later. Because of where 1 July falls, although structurally there won't be an earlier finish, I believe that school will end a week after the Village Open Day.
