Advent
My heart leaps up when I behold A Rainbow in the sky: So was it when my life began; So is it now I am a man; So be it when I shall grow old, Or let me die! The Child is father of the man; And I could wish my days to be Bound each to each by natural piety

William Wordsworth

Advent is a time of preparation and anticipation of the Christ event. As the earth is darkening around us we need to find light in our souls, light that weaves in the world.
This in its turn will quicken that part in us which is still like a child in the womb, filled with promise. If enough people are aware of the Spirit –child we each carry within, this will give us hope and strength to face many of the threats that come toward us both now and for the future of man and of the earth

Advent Fair
Well folks, 6 days to go!
You should all have your rota and posters, and know what you are doing on the day. Rotas for class children will be sent out by class teachers this week.
A reminder of what you need to do before the fair:

1. Bake a lovely festive cake (or children’s cakes, biscuits, quiches etc.)
These can be left in the school kitchen on Friday/Saturday/Sunday a.m.
2. Home produce – leave in school kitchen Fri/Sat/Sun a.m.
3. Tombola items – at least 3 per family (no 2nd hand or alcohol). Please don’t bring items once the fair has started. Leave in teachers room by Friday p.m.
4. Second-hand books will be in class 7/8 this year. Please leave your books in the new school building.
5. Stall organisers – please bring a covering for your stall. We have a clearing up team of only 3 people and as it is a MASSIVE JOB, I would like to request that if you are still around at the end of the fair, it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED if you could help. If everyone could help for 15 minutes it will make the job achievable (and I won’t have to stay till midnight!!!)

Any questions, please get in touch with any of the organisers and finally, ENJOY THE FAIR!

PS If anyone would like to help the organisers setting up, we will be in school on Sat 8th from 10am onwards.

The teachers are taking the lovely nativity play to Saltburn Community Theatre on Saturday 15 December at 2.30pm.

Christmas play at school
The teachers will be presenting the Oberufer Shepherds Play on Monday 17th of December at school at 4 p.m. All families and friends are warmly invited. On this day school will finish at 12.15. It is essential that parents sit with their children during the performance. There will also be a second performance at 7.30 for the Village.

Gym Club
There will be no more sessions this term but the club will begin again on Wednesday, 16th January for the older group and the following Wednesday, 23rd, for the younger group.

USING  THE  SCHOOL  CAR  PARK
I want to remind us all that we need to reverse in to the perimeter of the car park before letting children get in or out of the car.   I believe there is a school rule to this effect.   Certainly it is necessary for safety.   In recent times I have seen enough people ignoring this advice, to ensure that my complaint need not be taken personally by anyone.   I have spoken to some of the drivers concerned, not all.   In some cases, I have seen actual danger caused to actual children as a result.
There may be a temptation to cheat when the coast looks clear, with no other children in sight, perhaps even no other cars there.   THIS DOES NOT MAKE IT SAFE.   The situation can change very quickly, before your children have finished getting out.
I believe it is everyone’s business, and I will try to be braver in future and speak to everyone I see doing it (yes, it does take courage).   I hope this does not mean that “the coast is clear” will come to mean “Oh good, Timothy is not here watching”.   (I will be there in spirit !   Let’s pull ourselves together before some child is reduced to that condition.)

Kindergarten festival

Tuesday 18th December. Parents and friends are welcome at 10am. We will finish in time to join the carol singing at the main school at 11.45. ALL kindergarten children should come, at the normal time, (even if it is not their day)

Letter Inserting

Well done to everyone and many thanks to Andy & Hellena who contribute so much to the letter inserting effort. Thanks also to Katerina who stepped in at the last minute, not once but twice over the weekend. The machine joined in the efficiency and enthusiasm and all the huge Christmas mail out was packed and sealed by Saturday afternoon.
Thank you. If anyone has special requests for next year such as , 'please may I do every shift' or ' I cannot do March as it is my dog's birthday'  please let me know well in advance and I will do my best to accommodate all wishes. The mail outs will be in March, June &  September,  from which we need to do two sessions per family, and the biggie in November when we all need to be involved. Many thanks,

Advent Fair Café

Thank you to everyone who has already volunteered to make cakes.  Please do remember to make something special for us to sell in the cafe on Sunday 9th.  We would really appreciate a lovely big gateaux from anyone who has the gift and the know-how but little buns for children and mince pies will be very welcome too. Thanking you in anticipation of all the wonderful creations.

Advent morning gatherings

During Advent we would like to maintain our tradition of carol singing at the beginning of the school day, at 8.30am in the foyer, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
On Tuesday 18th December, at 11.45am, all the classes will come together to close the term with carol singing.
We warmly invite all parents and friends to join us in the school on these festive occasions.
Gabriella (for the Teachers).

WebSite News
There is now a private login page for parents and teachers. It contains the Who’s Who, the contact list, and more. It will in the future contain the parent’s handbook and other resources. What would you like to see there?

Also check out the news page and the downloads page as they are regularly updated.
